The main characteristic of folk tales is universality. Every people, primitive or civilized, has its share in the creation of fairy tales, stories, myths. The same patterns, the same types of fairy tales circulate in every part of the earth, in every culture. The difference is in the style. Each people, but also each storyteller of a specific geographical region, adds to the tale elements of its psychology, history, geography, residence, clothing, eating habits, professional occupations, healing, beliefs, language and of his dialect, his own beliefs and life attitudes. This is why the global fairy tale is both national and local, a fact that justifies the creation of similar collections, but also that imposes it, given the intense globalization processes of our time.

In the fairy tales of this book we discover elements from Epirus, the "good winter and sweet summer homeland, where every stone, every ruin and every pothole has its song, its tradition and its fairy tale", as Chr. Christovasilis in the Introduction to his own collection of Epirus Fairy Tales, first published in 1906. The mountains, which sometimes surround Epirus like walls and others run through it together with the once impassable rivers, which like "elements" separated people, also make it difficult for heroes of fairy tales or "exploited" as the case may be.
