The flesh of the Word of God was, right from the beginning, the innermost structure of everything that exists. Everything is known to God not simply from without, but from within. To such an extent, in fact, that He will always know us better than we know ourselves. And so, when we face the depths of a human existence - every human existence - we face Christ, the very flesh of the Word of God, Who differs from us only in that the face of Christ is also the second person of the Holy Trinity. That is why we are not alien to the phrase used by the ascetics of the desert in Egypt: "my brother, my God..."

In fact, no human being is as far away from us as Christ. And Christ is closer to us than even ourselves.
