THE SHELTER IN OMONIA
Agios Porphyrios and the Polyclinic of Athens

Omonia square. The center of Athens and impoverishment.
The brothers Nikolaos and Andreas Alivizatos founded the Polyclinic of Athens there in 1903. The hospital for the poor but also the medical vanguard.
The then hieromonk Porphyrios Bayraktaris served there for 33 years as a priest. Today one of the greatest saints of the Orthodox Church.
Selfless offer and cruel exploitation. A personal look at the landscape of modern Athens and the figure of a unique saint.
"The memories from this hospital where I also happened to live my childhood, my thoughts on what the camera records from bustling Omonia, the history and the offer of the Athens Polyclinic, my unique meeting with Agios Porphyrios. All this makes up "The Refuge in Omonia - Agios Porphyrios and the Polyclinic of Athens".

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE THEMATIC CONTENT OF THE DAY

The stressful situations experienced by the society are inevitably transferred to the family and the school, with the result that the mental state of the students is affected as well as their performance at school. Many children often experience pain and trauma  from a very tender age. Acts of bullying, injustice, rejection, and all kinds of traumatic childhood experiences create negative effects, both short-term and long-term. The heavier the event and the deeper the trauma, the slower its healing.

People who train in forgiveness practice resilience and bravery in order to reverse the contagion of anger and bitterness. They discover the hidden strengths within themselves, their intrinsic value , and learn to transform their trauma into something wonderful and flourish. Each taking responsibility for their behavior, with compassion and empathy for the difficult and irritable other, they decide to join together , thus healing their wounds and making a new meaningful beginning!

Stamatis Spanoudakis at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall - For Smyrna!

Stamatis Spanoudakis at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall - For Smyrna!

At the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 January 2023, at 9:00 pm, Stamatis Spanoudakis will perform two major concerts dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor disaster, entitled: "For Smyrna".

The distinguished composer, with his collaborators of many years by his side, will present selected excerpts from the whole of his rich work.
" After many, now overcome, difficulties, I will be in Thessaloniki to play to my favorite audience what I also played in October Irodio. Two concerts for all Macedonians!
The theme and title is "For Smyrna".
22 Smyrni, 22 this year and 22 years since the release of my album "For Smyrni". Numbers, which may not mean anything. Perhaps they mean something.
Like music, meanings and concepts that we spend a lifetime tracing, without ever really touching.
I promise to be present, waiting for the magic that happens when sound and listener, with a tear, come together.
Maybe my joy will be greater than yours, but even greater will be the joy of my grandfather from the Monastery!
Until then, everyone be well!
Stamatis Spanoudakis
The pre-sale has started with reduced prices for a limited time and number of tickets!
Hurry up!
