The desert community tells the Church, then and now, that its job is to be a community without fear, and it points us to some of the habits we need to develop in order to become fearless – habits that have to do with self-awareness and mindfulness of one another, habits founded on the awareness of God that pervades "being" and that comes from our constant exposure to Him, through the reading of the Bible and prayer.
Everything that exists owes its existence to the unique creative act of God; it owes its existence to the word that the eternal Word unceasingly addresses to it - every being has its own "word" at the center of its existence. Every true relation to anything is a revelation of this word...
