Bishop of Fanario Agathangelos
Vasilios Charamantidis was born in Chalki in the Dodecanese in 1961. He was ordained a deacon in 1983 and an elder in 1988 by the Metropolitan of Thebes Hieronymos. He studied theology at the Theological School of Athens and attended postgraduate studies at the Theological School of Thessaloniki. He served as a Vicar in the Diocese of Thebes. In 2001 he was appointed Director of the Apostolic Ministry of the Church of Greece. On January 9, 2003, he was elected titular Bishop of Fanari with 57 votes, having co-candidates Archimandrites Kyrillos Misiakoulis (2 votes) and Dionysios Mandalos (1 vote and 13 blank ballots). On January 13, 2003 he was ordained titular Bishop of Phanariou, Assistant Bishop of the Archdiocese of Athens. On June 27, 2019, he was promoted to titular Metropolitan.
