“The Elder, as mentioned, usually answered questions. That is why in the synthesis of the topics made from his speeches on various occasions, the dialogic form was kept. Included in the dialogues were excerpts from the letters he sent to the Hermitage or quotations from the books he wrote, as well as whatever thematically agreed with the letters entrusted to us by our brothers in Christ, or the notes they had kept during the their discussions with the Elder, so that each topic is given as fully as possible. An effort has been made to preserve, as far as possible, the directness and grace of the Elder's spoken word. There remained also some repetitions, which emphasized the meanings and stirred the hearts, and some of the frequent exclamations in the course of the narratives of his beating heart from the great love to God and man. References to solitary life are frequent. This happens not only because the Elder is addressing nuns, but because the "joy of monasticism", which comes from the complete entrustment of the monk's life to God, wanted to be sought by every lay person, in order to be freed from the insecurity it brings faith in the ego and delight Heaven from this life."
