The words of St. Justin are always relevant. It associates education with holiness in an inextricable way. He writes: "Only the saint is the true teacher and educator, the true "enlightener", and only holiness is the true illumination. This is the Gospel truth, which our Lord and God Jesus Christ revealed and which Orthodoxy preserved.
Listen to our Orthodox people, enter the sanctuary of their soul. Don't you see that he has identified the concept of education with the concept of holiness, the concept of a teacher ("enlightened one") with the concept of a saint? [...] From teachers and pedagogues, our people primarily ask for holiness. Where he does not find it, he knows that there is no education either. This sense and perception of education as holiness, as illumination in the light of Christ, has now become the consciousness of our Orthodox people. He does not want a superficial, mechanical European education, an external enlightenment, but he wants the education of the Holy Fathers and Teachers of the Church".
