Sotirchos M. Panagiotis

Panagiotis Sotirchos was born in 1930 in Mytilini and studied Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He was involved in journalism from a very early age. As early as 1954, he worked for the newspapers "To Vima", "Ta Nea", "Macedonia" and the magazine "Tachydromos". Afterwards, he worked in the newspapers "Vradini" and "Imera" and in the magazine "Radio program". He was editor-in-chief and chronicler of the newspaper "Vradini" from 1966 to 1970. In 1970 he left Greece and settled in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), Africa, where he lived until 1974, publishing the newspaper "Alithia". Afterwards, he returned to Greece and worked in the newspapers "Macedonia" and "Thessaloniki" covering freelance topics. Until his retirement in 1985, he also worked for the newspapers "Eleftheros Kosmos", "Eleftheri Gnomi", "Eidiseis", as well as editor of the church newspapers "Orthodox Typos" and "Ecclesiastical Truth".

Alongside his journalistic career, he developed a very large writing activity. In addition to the dozens of titles of works, poems, prose, studies, short stories, essays and novels that he published, he had written lyrics for many well-known songs that were sung and loved in the 1960s and 1970s. His work was widely recognized as he had received awards, such as the World Song Award in 1971, the 1st Short Story Award in 1992, as well as the Greek Song Awards of Athens and Thessaloniki.
