We cannot prevent death, neither our own nor that of our loved ones. Death does not limit the human face to what we see. It is incomparably greater and deeper than our words can describe and our eyes can see. Death is not the last word. The human person always develops and completes himself through the crises and trials of his life. Therefore we can look death in the face and continue to live giving meaning to our lives. The topic is of course... "forbidden" today and you can discuss it with very few people. We live in a world that scares the idea of death and hides the dying! As Hans Kung said: "The previous century had taboo sex, ours has death"!!
The painfulness of death becomes almost unbearable in its sudden version. The well-ordered everyday life is shattered by a "breakdown", which proves it to be as powerless as a spider's web. Our delusions turn out to be dreams... Our certainties are lies... (From the presentation on the back cover of the book)
