Christ walks slowly through history. Slow like a deep river, which a child would think was still, but which man could not dam. Slow as wheat, which you sow in autumn and think dead in winter. Spring has not yet come for the seed of Christ.
His way is difficult. That's why he walks slowly. He walks through pools of blood, through the darkness of sins, and through the thorns of robbers. Narrow is His way and many fallen sinners are on the precipice on both sides of His way. He must stoop on both sides, pick them up and pull them behind Him and walk forward. That's why he walks slowly.
He marches slowly, for His crew is far away. His crew stretches to the ends of history and His place is in the last...
