The main criterion for the selection of the publications in the present volume of my studies was their common Greek-Italian subject matter, just as it had happened in the previous volume of my associates, which had as its title the ancient name of the river of the Eternal City (Thybris). I collected the primary material of the fourteen studies mainly during my recent transitions in Italy - at the turn of the millennium - which were financially covered by the Research Committee of the University of Athens. The same committee subsequently financed the present edition. In the following pages of the volume titled with the ancient poetic name of Italy, Ausonia, the reader will encounter persons and themes, literary currents and works, biographical situations and memories of scholars, as well as travel impressions and descriptions of landscapes or monuments that compose a canvas, on which some indicative meetings of the Italian spirit with the Greek tradition are written.
