What is recorded here is not only the iconographic but also the liturgical and especially the Christological dimensions of the image, based on the testimony conveyed to us by the ancient texts of four traditions, Syrian, Armenian, Coptic and Ethiopian. In contrast to the Byzantine Orthodox world, which restored and officially established the veneration of icons from the time of the Second Council of Nicaea (787) as well as in 843, after the serious conflict caused on this issue, the ancient Eastern Churches they have not experienced Iconoclasm.
