And the cross is heavy and meaningless when we don't have someone by our side to comfort us. When we find such a person, our cross becomes less burdensome and its meaning is revealed. The affirmative meaning of the cross is that it allows us to realize ourselves as human beings... The cross that saves me is not my suffering, but the suffering of others: he suffers for me, I suffer for him...”
