Ignatios Mourtzanos

Father Ignatios Mourtzanos , vicar and superior of the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos Larissa, was born in Larissa on January 13, 1980. He is the son of a large family. He was ordained Deacon on October 27, 2002 and Elder on February 8, 2009 by the blessed Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ignatios. He was appointed General Hierarchal Commissioner on December 20, 2010, under his blessed Elder, and was reappointed to this administrative position on February 1, 2019, under the current Pastor of Mr. Hieronymos, while the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece during the session of August 26, 2020, following the proposal of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ieronymos, decided to appoint him as the new Protosignal of the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos.

He is a graduate of: the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Thessaloniki, the Department of Pastoral and Social Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Department of History, Archeology and Social Anthropology of the University of Thessaly and the Supreme Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki (simulation).

He holds Master's Degrees from the Departments: 1) Pastoral and Social Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the field of Church History, on the subject: "Dorotheos Kottaras, of Larissa, Archbishop of Athens and all Greece", 2. Medical School of the University of Thessaly, in the field of Bioethics, on the subject: "Bioethical considerations and cremation of the dead in Orthodox Greece-a retrospective study of the orthodox and historical texts from antiquity to the present day", 3. Psychology, of the University of East London, Great Britain, on the subject: "The offer of the Psychologist and the ministry of the Spiritual", 4. Philosophy, from the University Paul Valery-Montpellier, France and 5. Special Education from the University of Nicosia, Cyprus.

He holds a Doctorate Degree from the Departments: 1. Pastoral and Social Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the field of Church History, on the subject: "The Ecclesiastical events of 1974. The case of the Diocese of Larissa and Tyrnavos" and 2. Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina, in the field of Byzantine Philology, on the subject: "Joseph the Hymnographer and the hagiological sources".

He holds a Diploma in Computers and a Graduate of the English, French, Spanish and Italian languages, as well as the Palaeography Department of the Center for Hagiological Studies of Thessaloniki.
