A mountain retreat in the heart of the city
The theological study of the life and teaching of contemporary figures of the ecclesiastical establishment is an idiosyncratic exercise. I would call it an "exercise in the encounter with today", in the sense that you strive to distinguish which currents make up the current situation, to listen to what is special about each presence, to diagnose convergences and divergences, to understand theology as a living act.
All this has the effort of training in discipleship and equanimity, an effort to which all the baptized are obliged, but which is opposed by the teacher of unilateralism and self-righteousness.
