A series of persons with special radiance in their time and events - milestones in our path as Greeks are approached critically in the pages of this book. At first glance, these are independent and unrelated issues. And they are indeed studies, written for various reasons - or even rewritten - in recent years. All of them, however, are part of a broader thematic unit, which allows them to be gathered under a single title. They are related to an attempt to investigate the spiritual tradition of New Hellenism and its historical development in the last critical centuries. It is not, in one sense, a systematic development of the subject of the title, but it is definitely a global, despite its fragmentedness, approach to the limits that the special perspective of each text erases and allows.
